P.H.A.S.E. 1 Global — Jamaica

Empowering Jamaican youth. Connecting global support.

We create pathways of opportunity for young Jamaicans. Your support changes lives through education, sport, mentorship and community rebuilding.

Why it matters

Your support creates real impact

P.H.A.S.E. 1 Global is a vehicle for people and organisations who believe in Jamaican youth and want to see real, measurable impact.

We are building a community of changemakers — diaspora members reconnecting with their roots, local businesses investing in their neighbours, international foundations, and individual donors who give what they can.

Whether you are part of the diaspora, a local business owner, a corporate partner, a school administrator, a sports league, or an individual moved by our mission, there is a meaningful role for you. Your involvement — financial support, expertise, time or advocacy — becomes part of a network that is changing the trajectory of young lives across Jamaica.

What drives us

Mission & vision

Mission statement

To empower Jamaica’s youth by connecting local communities with the knowledge, resources and support of the global Jamaican diaspora. We provide pathways in education, sport, wellness and leadership that uplift young people, strengthen families and build resilient communities across the island.

Vision statement

A Jamaica where every child, regardless of background, has access to opportunity, mentorship and a strong support network; where communities thrive through unity, and where the next generation rises with the skills, confidence and hope to lead our nation forward.

Our origins story

The journey

P.H.A.S.E. 1 Global was founded in 2022 by Wayne Dawkins and is registered as a charity in St. James, Jamaica.

The work began long before the paperwork. Wayne is Jamaican-born and spent decades abroad building youth programmes, coaching and running organisations that serve young athletes and students. When he returned home, he brought that experience with him — along with a network of coaches, educators, clubs and diaspora supporters built up over thirty years.

P.H.A.S.E. 1 Global exists to turn that network into something young Jamaicans can actually use: school fees that get paid, meals that show up, courts that are safe to play on, a mentor who picks up the phone. We work parish by parish, alongside schools, clubs, community foundations and families, because lasting change is built locally and sustained by people who stay.

Today the charity supports programmes in education, sport, health and wellness, leadership and community rebuilding — connecting Jamaicans at home with Jamaicans abroad who want to give back to where they are from.

From academic support and vocational training to after-school sport, mentorship and health and wellness initiatives, we create safe spaces where young people can learn, grow and discover their full potential.

Whether we’re hosting community sports days, offering tutoring and scholarships, or training young people in First Aid and CPR alongside registered nurses, each programme is designed to uplift, empower and open doors — one child, one community, one moment of hope at a time.

About the scholarships

Support that meets students where they are

There is a direct correlation between success in the lives of youth and their participation in structured extracurricular activities.

From 2024 to 2025, over $100,000 USD in scholarships were awarded.

The Journey Awards Scholarships were established to offer children who lead multifaceted lives the financial support and mentorship they need — to directly impact their immediate goals and propel them towards greater success.

Mentorship

How mentorship works

Individual mentorship

  • Mentors receive a list of pre-approved questions. Applicants, with guidance from a parent or guardian, may ask some or all of them.
  • Alumni share their own journey and give advice relating directly to those questions. The committee pairs mentors and applicants carefully and sets guidelines for appropriate discussion.
  • Mentorship may include personal experience and recommended books, videos or articles.
  • Once complete, the mentor submits a short feedback form and signs off that the process is finished.

Group mentorship

  • Mentors may prepare small group activities.
  • Applicants may ask some or all of the pre-approved questions.
  • Alumni share their journey and give advice relating directly to those questions, and may recommend books, videos or articles.

After submitting your application form, you’ll be given the schedule to book your mentorship hours. Get in touch if you’d like to volunteer as a mentor.

Governance

Journey Awards Scholarship Committee

The committee oversees the annual scholarship and ensures the timely and fair disposition of scholarship funds. It publicises the scholarship, solicits applications, and makes decisions based on applicants’ responses. It is also responsible for distributing the awards and following up with recipients to confirm the scholarships are received.

The workshops

A safe space to learn, share and grow

P.H.A.S.E. 1 Global hosts social-emotional wellness workshops for youth aged 11–21 to support them through the challenges of adolescence.

These sessions help young people navigate stress, isolation and the growing pressures they face, while building resilience, confidence and healthy connections.

Beginning in 2026, workshops will be offered both virtually and in person, so that every young person has access to a safe, supportive space.

The project

Safe courts, stronger youth

Many community courts in Jamaica are unsafe, uncovered, and unusable for long hours because of heat, weather or poor lighting.

Our Court Covering & Improvement Project transforms these spaces into safe, vibrant places where youth can play, train and build confidence. By adding roof coverings, lights, resurfacing and regular cleaning, we create courts that protect children, extend training hours and strengthen entire communities.

Your support helps us give young people safe places to grow, dream and stay engaged in positive activities.

A court awaiting improvement work

What we’re aiming for

Project goals

  1. Create safe, weather-protected sports environments for youth in underserved communities.
  2. Increase access to training hours by adding lighting and covered areas.
  3. Improve court quality and safety through resurfacing, cleaning and regular maintenance.
  4. Build community pride by revitalising shared public spaces.
  5. Support youth development by giving children consistent access to structured play and mentorship.

Why this matters

A safe court is more than a place to play

For many young people in Jamaica the community court is their classroom, their refuge and their gateway to opportunity. When that space is unsafe, exposed or unusable, youth lose access to mentorship, physical activity, structure and a positive outlet that keeps them focused and hopeful.

By covering courts, installing lights and restoring surfaces, we give children a safe place to belong, train and dream. These improvements protect their health, extend their opportunities and strengthen entire communities — one court at a time.

Ways you can support

You can help build a safe space for a child

Your contribution — funds, tools or materials — directly helps cover court costs, install lights, resurface play areas and create safe, inspiring spaces for youth across Jamaica.

  • Sponsor a court covering
  • Donate paint, lighting or resurfacing materials
  • Provide tools or contractor services
  • Contribute cleaning and maintenance supplies
  • Fund lighting installation and safety upgrades
